Past Retreats:

2015 Twelfth Annual Women's Retreat:       Faith Shaping Communities: Reflecting on Our Dwelling Places
March 10 - 12, 2015 at Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center MDNR RAM Center, by Higgins Lake. All of us dwell in communities that shape our lives -- the workplace, school, civic organizations, and certainly the church. At this retreat, we'll explore what it means to be part of a community, how we support our chosen communities and how they, in turn, nurture us, and how we can help shape communities in ways that strengthen and deepen our faith and commitments. Facilitator: Rev. Christine Vogel, D. Min.

2014 Women's Retreat:       Building Community Through Communication
March 14 - 16, 2014 at MacMullan Conference Center by Higgins Lake. The words community and communication stem from the same Latin root, and are both tied to a sense of the common — that is — what is shared among us. The goal of this retreat is to focus on our commonalities, while valuing our differences. Through presentation, discussion, and application of communication practices, we will examine the way we construct our identities, relationships, and communities through communication. Specifically, we will learn about:
  • Identity management
  • Perspective taking
  • Conflict strategies
Please bring an open mind, an open heart, and a willingness to take risks. Together, we will build a safe and supportive community through compassionate communication.

A few words on compassionate communication:
"If I am not for myself, then who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?" — Rabbi Hillel
"The greatest gift we can offer anyone is our true presence". — Thich Nhat Hanh
"Instead of trying to have the right partner, let’s focus on trying to be the right partner". — Joanne Gilbert
Joanne Gilbert, Facilitator

2013 Women’s Retreat:       Joy and the Gorgeous Woman
April 12 - 14, 2013 at MacMullan Conference Center by Higgins Lake. “Joy is the infallible sign of the presence of God.” -- Teilhard de Chardin “We have God’s JOY in our blood.” -- Frederick Buechner “Our greatest gift is sharing what gives us joy.” -- Sam Keen A time apart, a time to rest, a time to laugh. A time apart to hear God call out to you, “Hello, Gorgeous!” Isn’t that the truth of how God sees us? We are God’s Beloved. What JOY does that raise in your heart? How do you feel called to Live that JOY, Share the JOY, Honor that JOY? We spend time with music, poetry, special readings and our own experiences of the Holy Joy of God! Jan Caligan, Facilitator

2012 Women’s Retreat:      Small Graces & Some Not So Small
April 27 - 29, 2012 at beautiful MacMullan Conference Center by Higgins Lake! Small Graces & Some Not So Small Loosely based on Kent Nerburn’s book, Small Graces: The Quiet Gifts of Everyday Life I quote one of my favorite authors, Frederick Buechner, “Listen to your life. If God speaks any-where, it is into our personal lives that he speaks... touch, taste, smell your way to the hidden heart of it, because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and LIFE ITSELF IS GRACE.” This weekend held countless hidden promises of Grace as we shared with one another in recognizing and discerning anew, Grace upon Grace! Love Wins! Grace Never Fails! Edie Hillstrom, Facilitator
